my creative space cards for ‘schools without borders’ and a new couch for L’il B

This was what I created last night. Just adding finishing touches today. I am writing fill-in-your-own holiday cards to help raise airline miles for a Canadian NGO that is close to my heart called Schools Without Borders. I was trying to think of creative ways to get people interested in the SWB Million Mile Campaign (in a nutshell SWB sends Canadian youth into developing countries to do a variety of work on a volunteer basis, so airline miles are a great help). I sent around a regular email but didn’t feel like it had enough of an impact- it’s way too easy for people to close an email and quietly forget about it. So, I decided to write 15 letters to people I thought would be able to donate and in exchange for their miles I made them Christmas cards or Holiday cards (non-denominational) that say, “Dear_______, I have donated _____ aeroplan miles to Schools Without Borders on your behalf....” and go on to wish them a merry christmas etc. The people I sent these to get a Christmas present in exchange for giving in the spirit of the holidays. It took a bit of time to craft, write and address them, so fingers crossed that it works and people are feeling generous. If you are in Canada or have aeroplan miles (affiliated with Air Canada) please visit www.swb.ca/donate/aeroplan to find out more about this great cause. Even if you’re not Canadian it’s worth a look as it really is an international NGO on a lot of levels. In it’s short history SWB has sent over 500 volunteers to 15 countries throughout the world! They also have inspirational and beautiful mini films on youtube that you can peruse. Enjoy and remember, you get what you give. x

Next is this couch. I got it at a garage sale for $2. It had a purple Disney princess themed cover on it and not only was Big B a little appalled at the princess I am turning our son into, but the colour scheme just wasn’t working for me either. So, I took a couple old pillow cases, a bit of printed fabric I’ve been storing and cut the pieces to fit the couch... now I just need to sew it. I have to admit I’ve been procrastinating on this front. I am not really sure HOW to go about doing this in the neatest, most effective way so I have been a little reluctant to get started. But I will try and get it started today and finished by the end of the weekend. Notice above the couch the really cute prints from Jhoanna at One Red Robin. I got the frames at Vinnie’s. Very inspirational reading corner for L’il B. He loves it. He marches right over and cuddles up on his couch with a book!
