with love: how to make 'little golden book' gift bags

This is such a fast and simple way to make presents for any occasion look great. It is especially nice to wrap clothes, jewelry, small soft toys and soft covered books in.

It's pretty self-explanatory but just in case you wanted to see it step-by-step here your are:

1. Choose your golden book image of choice (mine in this particular instance is not a Little Golden Book (lol), really any paper print will do- whatever you fancy)

2. Cut the image down to the size you want for your present, this will act as the front of the bag. If your present is bigger than the page you can glue the image onto a larger piece of paper and use that paper as you would the golden book image in the following instructions (hope this makes sense).

3. Cut a piece of paper out the same size as your image to act as the back of the bag. I trimmed the bottom corners of the papers to make it more of a pouch shape. Any paper will do, I used paper from reversegarbage that is a little thicker than computer paper. Thicker brown paper bags would be ideal for heavier presents.

4.Place the two pieces on top of one another in their proper positions (not inside out or anything) Start sewing 2 cm from the top corner edge of the bag and about 1/2 to 1 cm from the side, using a tight basic stitch. Sew all the way down and around the corners, and then back up 2 cm from the top corner on the other side. You should now have a bag or pouch.

5. Trim any excess thread. Take some ribbon or something similar (again, I have a huge bag of ribbon from reversegarbage) and sew the handle onto both sides at a desired length.

6. Trim all excess thread and stuff with your present. If they are small enough they are wonderful to hang on the tree for Christmas morning.

I attach a little card that asks that the recipient either re-use the bag again, or uses it as colouring paper for the children. If it needs to be thrown out eventually the thread can be easily ripped out in order to recycle the paper.

Happy wrapping! xo
