the oil cleansing method

I came across the "Oil Cleansing Method" (OCM) here a few weeks ago. I have always had problem skin, I cringe thinking about it, but I actually went on accutane in high school for acne. Through both of my pregnancies my skin flared up making me feel like an embarassed teenager all over again. I have tried everything on the market- goat's milk soap, medicinal soaps, creams, agents, chemicals, natural products... but I had never tried this:

The oil cleansing method is freakishly simple- ONCE a day (in the evenings) you massage oil into your face for a couple minutes, then cover your face with a hot facecloth to steam and remove the oil. That's it. No soaps, no toners, no moisturisers... nothing! Two weeks ago, I started to use a mixture of 3 parts castor oil and one part sweet almond oil, and a few drops of essential oil of mandarin for a sweet smell. My skin has never been so clear, so dewy and so soft. I haven't had a blemish at all. I have some tea tree oil in the cabinet in case anything comes up, but I haven't had to use it.

Indigo and I this morning. I have no make up on. Please excuse my robe.

Whether you have problem skin or not, read about the OCM and if you're interested, brave it for a couple weeks. By far the best beauty ritual I have ever adopted. I am glowing with happiness!

I've had problem skin forever too! My teen years were the worst. For me, pregnancy cleared up my skin but lately I've been having horrible breakouts again. I've tried it all too. I'll definitely give this a try. Thanks for sharing!

There is nothing fun about getting pimples and when I was younger I got quite a few but not so much now. My oldest is 11 going on 12 this year so this could be very helpful for her as she goes through the teenage skin phase, thank you.

The photo of you and Indigo is beautiful, she has the bluest eyes and your skin looks lovely:) xo

Hey there, pretty mama! Yes, that photo of you and Indigo is really stunning.

I can't help but to be a huge evangelist for the OCM. It has made such a drastic difference in my life - and my younger sister who has struggled with problem acne for YEARS has found it be a miracle for her skin.

Thanks for linking over to SortaCrunchy and for helping to spread the OCM love!

While I don't have terrible acne problems, I do always seem to have a few blemishes on my face. I am afraid of those chemical-filled products, so maybe this oil method will work :)

Oh, and little Indigo, she is looking so much like her big brother! Beautiful children Megan xx

Hey Meagan, I went and had a read.
I'm not so clever with making up concoctions, so, can you tell me, do you make up a batch and store it in a bottle, or make it up each night as you go?
Can you tell me how much of each thing you have used? I would like to give this a go!
Oh, and these products, are they usually sold in health food stores?
Thanks heaps, Rhiannon

I've read about it before, but to see the actual results is good, your skin looks great! I wonder how it would work for rosacea?

I've been using this method for a year or so now too. I have dry skin and it used to flake. Now it doesn't. I just use coconut oil and cold water though (we are on tank water and it takes too long for the hot to come through). It is also the best make up remover.
Off topic - doesn't your son have the bluest eyes!

I've always had problem skin too, but my mom would never let me go on accutane when I was a teen. Kind of a blessing in retrospect. Ive heard of this before but never actually tried it. Perhaps I should give it a shot. Where can you buy castor oil?

Ps I got the cookbook this morning and I squealed with excitement! Thank you so much! I'm taking it with me on my camping trip and can't wait to start reading.

wow... I will try this. I'm pregnant with #2, and my skin is starting to look, well, pregnant as well. In all the pregnancy books they say to ramp up the washing, but I really like the sound of the oil cleanse. I'll have to find some castor oil and try it out.

Thanks for the tip,
E

Isn't it good. I've been using this method for quite some time. Parts of my face & scalp suffer from dermatitis. So my skin is really dry & flaky. When I use oil, it's beautiful & smooth.
It's cheap too!
Your skin is looking great & Indigo is so gorgeous. How are those eyes.

I definitely need to try this again! I started it a while ago, but couldn't figure out the right ratio for my skin type. I definitely had a glow that I didn't have before. Your face looks absolutely beautiful! (and your babe is adorable!!)

I used the OCM for awhile when I was pregnant. My skin looked great for about 3 weeks, then reverted to its normal splotchiness. I hope it lasts longer for you...

I wonder if I was doing something wrong?? Castor and sweet almond oil, steamy towel, wipe off well...dunno, but it quit working for me. Maybe I should give it a non-pregnant go.

Hello everyone- hope to answer everyone's questions

@Rhiannon I store it in a big bottle and shake before pouring a small amount into my palms and rubbing in

@Fran the day after I posted this I did get a few little pimples, although I picked at a few nothings and made them into somethings if you know what I mean. I used some tea tree oil and it calmed things down

@many: Indigo is GIRL- LOL not that I mind, just wanted to set things clear so that when she is older she doesn't ask why I didn't correct anyone.

@emily yes, definitely try again after pregnancy- I don't think anything can save some os us from raging pregnancy hormones.

I have always had problem skin and I have tried everything, however recently i stumbled across a recipie that has made my skin so clear and healthy. No more cleansers, toners and moisturisers. All it is ... 60 ml, rose water, 40ml water, 1 tsp glycerin, a few drops of lavender and a tsp of almond oil in a glass bottle. Just shake it and pour a small amount into your hands and dab on your face. I use it daily and my skin look and feels amazing!

I too was on roaccutane as a teenager and have had problem skin all my teen, early teen and adult life. My skin cleared up heaps when I stopped eating dairy when breastfeeding my wee Cherub, but this sounds amazing. I am about to embark on a trial of Oil Cleansing.....think I'll take before and after photos. Love the idea of just one skin care product in my cupboard. Thanks for this post.
