thank you very much, but next time please don't throw out your toys!

In Australia, once every so often a big truck comes around to collect the garbage that you can't put into the regular weekly bins. They call this "hard rubbish". People leave out furniture, toys, applicances and everything in between. I get the car once a week to drive to playgroup and today the Gods must have been smiling down upon us because to my utter delight we found this on the side of the road:

You can imagine the excited squeal I let out when I saw this sitting on the side of the road. The house is in such beautiful condition I actually rang on the doorbell to make sure it really was hard rubbish- "Yes, take it" they said, as they peered out the window and watched me stuff it in the boot frantically in case they decided to change their minds.

As much as I am overjoyed and grateful for this discovery, I can't help but be horrified that someone would put this out for trash instead of donating it to goodwill or finding friends who might be interested in it. Please people- give your toys away! It's better for the environment and better for our wallets.

Now, welcome! Come inside and look around.

The dolls and furniture were with it too- it breaks my heart to imagine this magical world in a dump!

oh my! What a score!!!!!!! My Ada would love that. I too, am gobsmacked at what people throw out here in Australia. I furnished my whole house as a 18 year old living in Sydney by driving around the eastern suburbs! ;-) We have been meaning to do it here in Perth too... must get onto that! There seems to be way too much disposable income in Australia, not that that's a bad thing, I just feel like it breeds that whole "throw-away" mentality that's taking over the world. Quite sad really. Well done you for spotting that one!

I can't believe someone would put that by the side of the road it is absolutely beautiful. Only today I caught up with a friend and passed on all of the clothes that don't fit Miss 7, it's something I always do and it gives me so much joy to know that someone else has been able to use the clothes again. Enjoy your wonderful find. xo

Oh my Lord - how COULD someone throw that away?? I understand no longer wanting/needing it, but to chuck it?? Well done - I hope you get years of use out of it before passing it on to someone else.

I wonder the same thing every week as I see piles of stuff left outside houses in my area. This week I found a beautiful pot and planter box that I took home off the street. It makes me feel so sad that people dont think of an alternative. Happy playing with the dolls house, it sure is beautiful

Wow! That is an awesome find, but yes, why would anyone give such a lovely wooden house away, there are so many places who would take it, even just drop it by an op shop donation bin?

Oh, I want a house like that SO much for my little one! That absolutely breaks my heart that someone would just curb it. I'm so happy you rescued it! Fabulous find!

What an amazing find! That is stunning, and in such good condition too. Those council collections are meant to be for hard 'rubish', not perfectly good toys! I hope north loves it!

I wish more people would use Freecycle. It's such an awesome initiative. At one point, when I had too much chicken poo to fit in my compost bins, I advertised it on Freecycle and had 30 enquiries! We even had a scooter that needed substantial repair, which we had over 50 people wanting through Freecycle. One person's trash, is another person's treasure. Good on you for picking it up - what an awesome find!

OMG! what a great/heartbreaking find :) Such a wonderful treasure to be left for hard rubbish.

That is amazing, I would have grabbed it too. I really believe some people have more money than sense or that they are just plain lazy. It is much easier to put it out on the street than to drop it at opp shop.

That's such a fantastic house, I'd love one of those. I can't believe anyone would throw it out instead of giving it away.

That is so sad that they were too lazy to donate such a treasure and were simply going to throw it out. What a waste!

I'm so glad you found it. x t.

I always put unwanted items at the curb, saying to myself, if someone doesn't take it overnight I will take it in and drag it down to Goodwill. I never have to do that, someone always takes it. I put two chairs out once and a woman screamed at me about how wasteful I was, she had no idea of my intentions, as she loaded them in her car.

Wow...that blows my mind that someone would throw this away. it is really scary to think about all the stuff in the landfill in great condition while there are children without toys, clothes, even food. We always give our toys away on free cycle or to good will. What a sweet find for you! So happy to see this saved from the dump!!
